Final deadline approaching for Finn Europeans in Kiel

Final deadline approaching for Finn Europeans in Kiel

Dear Finn sailors

You are no doubt aware that the Europeans in Kiel has attracted a very small entry.

To date only 26 are paid up. This is neither financially viable for the organising club, nor in the best interests of the class. However, there are 36 ‘entries’ in Manage2Sail. All have been asked to pay several times, but we can only assume that non-payment means non-attendance.

On July 24, the decision to go ahead or cancel will be made by the Organising Authority based on the number of paid entries.

All those who have entered and not paid will be removed. If the number of paid entries does not significantly improve by then, we expect that the OA will cancel the event for the Finns. They have said they need 40 entries to make the event viable. We are still a long way short of that.

This problem has been discussed widely in the Executive to find solutions and promote the event, but it seems there is a general lack of interest in sailing in Kiel, given that the German nationals in Travemünde, 2 weeks earlier has 68 entries.

Unless matters change for the better, we expect the OA will cancel the event.
